Los tiempos han cambiado y la Ceremonia de los Oscar no podía quedarse atrás. La 86 edición de los Premios de la Academia pasará a la historia por ser la más difundida a través de las redes sociales, una gala cargada de selfies de una Ellen DeGeneres elegida nada fortuitamente para atraer a las nuevas generaciones, y que ha dado a la Academia lo que la Academia requería: una revolución en Twitter. El camino de las baldosas amarillas ha conducido a Oz a 12 años de esclavitud, título de Steve McQueen que se ha llevado el Oscar a la Mejor Película del año, obteniendo asimismo el Oscar a la Mejor Actriz de reparto para Lupita Nyong’o y el de Mejor Guion Adaptado para John Ridley. La película más galardonada de la gala fue Gravity, la cual obtuvo siete de las diez estatuillas a que estaba nominada, incluyendo el Oscar a Mejor Director para Alfonso Cuarón, el Mejor montaje y la generalidad de los premios técnicos. La gran derrotada de la noche fue American Hustle cuya protagonista, Amy Adams, vuelve a quedarse sin el Oscar tras cinco nominaciones. Situación parecida vive Leonardo DiCaprio, quien hace tiempo ya comprobó que no goza del parabién de la Academia, no en vano El lobo de Wall Street, película de Martin Scorsese que protagoniza DiCaprio, no ha obtenido ninguno de los cinco Oscar a que estaba nominada.

Esperados galardones como los de Cate Blanchett por Blue Jasmine y Matthew McConaughey por Dallas Buyers Club, se fueron sucediendo en una gala en la que muchos rostros conocidos del Hollywood de siempre se entremezclaban con las nuevas generaciones de intérpretes, con Joseph Gordon-Levitt,  Emma Watson y Jennifer Lawrence, a la cabeza; al respecto cabe señalar que Lawrence volvió a protagonizar la anécdota de la gala, sufriendo una aparatosa caída al estilo de la pasada edición de los Oscar, mala suerte y además reincidente, para la actriz de American Hustle. Con apariciones musicales a cargo de U2, Pharrell Williams o Pink, la nota nostálgica la trajo Bette Midler interpretando Wind Beneath My Wings. Una gala con numerosos artistas consagrados y bellos, como nuestra Penélope Cruz del brazo de Robert de Niro, e incluso momentos de risión, como el explícito homenaje de Whoopi Goldberg a El mago de Oz, mostrando sus piernas engalanadas con los leotardos a rayas y los chapines de rubí cuan la Bruja mala del Este, o bien el traje que lució Ellen DeGeneres imitando a la Bruja buena del Norte. Una gala con aciertos y con errores, en definitiva, que sin embargo dejará un hito para la posteridad. Pero no se engañen, el hito no es de cine, si no que se lo pregunten a los millones de personas que han retwitteado la foto que dio la vuelta al mundo en sesenta segundos. Sin duda los Oscar han entrado en una nueva generación.
